CDL driver reviewing information in the FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse

If you renewed, replaced, transferred, or updated your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), it is important to review the information associated with your FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse account and make sure it is accurate and up to date.

The Clearinghouse uses your CDL or CLP information to correctly identify your driver record and allow you to review your information and respond to employer consent requests.

Why is it important to review your CDL information?

Your CDL information helps the Clearinghouse correctly match you with your drug and alcohol compliance record.

If the information does not match, you may experience problems verifying your license or responding to certain requests inside the system.

When should you review your Clearinghouse information?

You should review your information after:

  • Renewing your CDL

  • Replacing a lost or damaged license

  • Transferring your CDL to another state

  • Changing your legal name

  • Receiving a new CDL number

  • Making other important changes to your commercial license information

How can you review your CDL information?

Log in to your FMCSA Clearinghouse driver account and review the CDL information associated with your profile.

Make sure the CDL number, issuing state, and other identifying information match your current commercial driver’s license.

What if my CDL cannot be verified?

The Clearinghouse verifies commercial driver information through CDLIS, the Commercial Driver’s License Information System.

If your information cannot be verified, carefully review your CDL number, issuing state, spaces, hyphens, and any leading zeros that are part of your license number.

What changed with Clearinghouse II?

Since November 18, 2024, State Driver Licensing Agencies are required to check the Clearinghouse before issuing, renewing, upgrading, or transferring certain CDL or CLP credentials.

Drivers with a Prohibited status may lose their commercial driving privileges until they complete the required Return-to-Duty process and become eligible to return to safety-sensitive functions.
