If you’re a CDL driver, the DOT drug test checks 5 drug groups that can instantly end your driving career:
✅ Marijuana (THC)
✅ Cocaine
✅ Amphetamines (Adderall, Vyvanse, Methamphetamine, MDMA, MDA)
✅ Opioids (Codeine, Morphine, Heroin, Hydrocodone, Oxycodone, Oxymorphone, Hydromorphone, Fentanyl, Methadone)
✅ PCP
Any positive = violation, reported to the FMCSA Clearinghouse, and you are forbidden to drive until completing the DOT Return-to-Duty process.
Other substances that can trigger a positive test or disqualify you:
Pain meds: Tramadol, Demerol, Dilaudid.
Anxiety meds: Xanax, Valium, Klonopin (may mark you “Not Qualified” during DOT physical)
Sleeping pills: Ambien, Lunesta
ADHD meds: Adderall, Vyvanse (high-risk without proper documentation)
Weight-loss pills: Many contain amphetamine derivatives
CBD products: Often contaminated with THC
Marijuana edibles: Gummies, brownies, vapes → 1 piece is enough to test positive
Coca tea / herbal products from Latin America: High risk of cocaine metabolites
Important
Even with a prescription, opioids and certain stimulants can result in “Negative with Safety Concern”, which still removes you from driving until cleared by the MRO and your doctor.
One pill, one gummy, one tea = your CDL at risk. Always check medications with your doctor AND your employer before taking anything.
If you tested positive, we can help you complete the full DOT Return-to-Duty process — evaluation, education, follow-up plan, and everything required to get you back on the road legally.
