Prepare for International Roadcheck Week: May 13–15, 2025

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has scheduled its annual International Roadcheck for May 13–15, 2025. This 72-hour event is the largest targeted enforcement program on commercial motor vehicles in North America, with nearly 15 trucks and motorcoaches inspected every minute across the continent during this period.

Focus Areas for 2025

🔍 This year, inspectors will pay special attention to:

  • Driver’s Record of Duty Status (RODS): Ensuring compliance with hours-of-service regulations to prevent fatigue-related incidents.

  • Vehicle Tires: Checking for proper inflation, tread depth, and overall condition to ensure safety on the roads.

Understanding Roadside Inspections

There are several levels of roadside inspections, with Level I being the most comprehensive, involving a 37-step procedure that examines both driver credentials and vehicle mechanical fitness.

Common Violations to Avoid:

🔴 Driver Violations:

  • Speeding 8-10 MPH over the limit

  • ELD form and manner violations

  • False reports of duty status

  • Operating without a valid medical certificate

  • Lane restriction violations

🔴 Vehicle Violations:

  • Missing periodic inspection documentation

  • Inoperable required lamps

  • Brake system issues

  • Tire problems, including under-inflation

  • Inoperative identification lamps

Preparation Tips

✅ Conduct thorough pre-trip inspections.

✅ Ensure all documentation is up to date and readily accessible.

✅ Address any maintenance issues promptly.

✅ Educate drivers on compliance requirements and inspection procedures.

Proactive preparation is key to a successful International Roadcheck. Ensuring both drivers and vehicles meet all regulatory standards will not only help avoid violations but also contribute to overall road safety.
