If you are a CDL driver or a transportation company owner, you must know that updating your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) information in the Clearinghouse is not optional—it’s mandatory.
Why is this so important?
The Clearinghouse Drug and Alcohol Program is the national system that records drug and alcohol testing violations for commercial drivers. This system relies on your CDL information being accurate so employers, the DOT, and other agencies can properly identify you.
If you have renewed, replaced, transferred, or updated your CDL—for example, changed states, or updated your name or address—you must also update that information in your Clearinghouse account.
What happens if you don’t update your information?
❌ Employers may not be able to view your history.
❌ Search results or matches may contain errors.
❌ The hiring process could be delayed, or legal issues may arise during an audit.
❌ The DOT may consider you non-compliant with federal regulations, which could result in penalties.
Who needs to update the information?
✅ Drivers: Must log into their Clearinghouse account and verify that their CDL number and state are correct.
✅ Company owners: Must ensure their drivers’ CDLs are up to date and that their information is correct in the database.
